With World Book Day upon us, we’re thrilled to share a recent cake smash session that brought a beloved children’s book to life: The Gruffalo’s Child!
This adorable session starred little Elsie, whose family pulled out all the stops to make her first birthday extra special. The theme? A whimsical nod to The Gruffalo’s Child, complete with a stunning cake crafted by Elsie’s talented mum—a food tech teacher with some serious baking skills. The cake was a masterpiece, bursting with woodland vibes and storybook charm, perfectly setting the scene for Elsie’s big moment. Watching her dive in, with tiny hands grabbing fistfuls of cake, was pure joy—messy, magical, and oh-so-memorable.
What made this session even sweeter was the family’s tradition of epic cake smashes. Elsie’s older brother, Otis (now a very grown-up 3-year-old), had his own unforgettable smash at one, themed around Jurassic Park. Dinosaurs and cake? It was a roaring success (pun intended), and the bar was set sky-high. Naturally, Elsie’s Gruffalo’s Child theme had to be just as spectacular—and it did not disappoint!
World Book Day is all about sparking imagination, and we love how this family wove their favourite stories into these milestones. From Otis’s prehistoric adventure to Elsie’s forest tale, these sessions remind us why we do what we do: to freeze those fleeting, joyful chapters in time.
